IEEE is the world's largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through its highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.
The Student Branch of FISAT was formed in 2003 with the motto, "Integrating Innovations" aimed at imparting technical skillsets to the students and raising the standards of the activities towards the society we serve. Shri S Gopakumar, the Student's Activities Chairman and IEEE GOLD MEMBER Shri Vargheese Cherian took the initial steps to plant the roots of the World's largest technical and professional organization at FISAT.

IEEE SDP (Student Development Program) is an initiative of IEEE FISAT SB with an aim of "Building Student Professionals" to support and develop all the passionate tech enthusiasts and foster young minds there. The Student Development Program is an open call to all our student members who are interested in sharpening their technical skills and to advance in their area of interest. SDP is a yearlong program, where the students are mentored and trained in different domains. The student members of our student branch will be provided with assistance, support, and guidance by experienced students in selected domains. The initial stage of the program will contain an introduction to the domain and the core areas that have to be focussed. To ensure that they have received the clear cut idea of the topic, hands-on sessions are made available to gather experience and exposure. This process will continue throughout the year with the opportunities to build projects in the selected domains and to attend hackathons and other competitions. This will help the students not only to develop their technical skills but also to improve their collaboration, teamwork, creativity, time management, and much more.
SDP also provides a free space for students to showcase their innovative ideas and to clear their doubts in any other domain. Weekly meetings are organized for the members of each domain to discuss their strategy and plan of action. Meeting of the mentors is also organized where they will communicate with each team's progress and their next aim. SDP was the brainchild of Master Zacharia Joshy, who served as the technical coordinator of IEEE FISAT SB 2019-20.
Assistance offered in following domains as part of SDP
Technical Talk Sessions were organized in our SB on all Wednesday evenings under “Texvo Series”. The main point of attraction of the Texvo series is that it provides an open platform for each and every student member to prepare a presentation and present before the audience, giving a chance for all to learn and speak on a technology that has inspired them the most. This open platform helps them in improving their communication skills and provides them a live exposure to the face and answer the queries on their topic. After the session, the audience can clarify their doubts and confusion on the Technology that the speaker has mentioned. The student member who is taking the session can include his/her creativity to make the session interactive by adding small quizzes, activities, etc. to make the session more attractive and interesting. Special sessions by faculty members are also conducted once in a while and also on special occasions.
Pre-Xtreme is an initiative of IEEE FISAT SB with an intention to mentor and guide our student members for the IEEE Xtreme 24 hour Global coding competition. IEEE FISAT SB introduced the Pre-Xtreme 1.0 last year, the event received an overwhelming response from our student members of different branches and years. The Pre-Xtreme 1.0 coding competition was conducted for 2 hours exclusively for our members. This season of Pre-Xtreme the Pre-Xtreme 2.0 is made to be an inter college coding competition with an intention to bring and provide students a competitive spirit and a wide variety of questions covering all the difficulty levels and different logic schemes. In this pandemic period when all the sectors and industries are facing crisis and recruitments are purely based on coding and technical knowledge it is very important for us to improve our skills too and IEEE FISAT SB is always playing the key role in uplifting all the technical skills, competitive spirits and managerial skills and providing and organizing events like Student Development Programme(SDP), Pre-Xtreme and much more.
